Cosmos – Sulphur Bright Lights Mix

The Sulphur Bright Lights Mix is a vibrant blend of Cosmos sulphureus varieties, showcasing bright yellows, oranges, and fiery reds. These cosmos thrive in hot, arid climates and are native to Central America, where they are well adapted to withstand temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C).

Compared to Cosmos bipinnatus, Cosmos sulphureus produces smaller, more compact flowers and typically blooms later in the growing season. In dry, warm regions, this variety can even be planted in the fall, extending the blooming period. In colder or wetter climates, sow seeds only in the spring after the soil has sufficiently warmed, as these seeds require heat for germination and may rot if planted too early in cold, moist soil.

Like all cosmos, Sulphur Bright Lights attract birds and pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making them a beneficial addition to any garden ecosystem. They also make excellent cut flowers, providing vivid color and long-lasting blooms.

These cosmos prefer well-drained, moderately infertile soil; overly rich or heavily fertilized soil can cause excessive growth, leading to tall, unstable plants prone to falling over. They are low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, and can sustain themselves even with minimal care. While they can be started indoors, direct sowing outdoors is often more successful.
