Prairie Junegrass is an upright native perennial bunchgrass that is indigenous throughout most of the lower 48 states, Canada and even as far into the Pacific as Hawaii. It has low moisture requirements, needing as little as 14 inches of annual precipitation. Prairie Junegrass is used extensively for restoration work where high drought and fire tolerance is essential. It is well adapted to medium and coarsely textured soils. As a native forage crop, it is rated as good to fair and will produce new growth in the early spring. It will develop a root system that reaches nearly 2 feet below the ground. For this reason, it is well suited as a native soil stabilization species.
Seeding rate on Prairie Junegrass is 2 lbs per acre for using a seed drill to plant in rows. If you are wanting to broadcast the seed to plant or use a broadcast spreader you will need 2 to 2.5 times more seed 4 to 5 lbs per acre. (For reference there is 43,560 sq. ft in an acre)
